Product Philosophy

Software is pure magic.

Steve Jobs famously related software to humans on a bicycle. When it comes to energy expended versus distance traveled, Humans get beat by 33% of all animals in the world but you give a human a bike and they rise above every other animal.Tools take us to new heights, they make us able to achieve more than we could on our own. In the era of ai / software, we’re levelling up as a species and great products turn that dial way up.

Jumping into the FinTech world with Zurp, I switched gears from managing engineering teams to going back to my roots and getting my hands dirty programming in React / React Native. My main role was to bring the Zurp app to life on the front end, using React Native/Expo. I turned our Figma designs into real, working parts of our app - making sure they looked and felt just right.Being part of a startup meant I wasnt just sticking to the front end. I also dove into the backend, working with Node.js. One of my big wins was setting up Temporal, giving our backend a real boost when it came to scheduling jobs.My role extended far beyond coding; I was instrumental in both defining and designing key parts of our product. My contributions were central to the products evolution, with many ideas I initiated being incorporated into the app. I also temporarily assumed the role of lead designer, using Figma to maintain the momentum of product development and ensure seamless feature integration during a crucial transition period. This dual capacity underscored my deep engagement in shaping the products design and functionality. From day one at Zurp, Ive been in the thick of it - from building our app from the beginning, launching it, and now seeing it grow with over 20,000 users and 5.5 million in card spend.
